News: UFC on FOX main card features just two fights

The UFC and FOX are slipping Manny Pacquiao's punch in the first event of their new partnership.

The main card of the yet-unnumbered show on Nov. 12 will feature just two fights as opposed to the usual four or five, the "Las Vegas Sun" reported Thursday.

As a result, the mega-popular boxing champ's fight with Juan Manuel Marquez won't overlap. The Nov. 12 event will still be a full card, but more matches will be "dark," and likely streamed on Facebook.

"All of our interests are aligned," UFC president Dana White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) shortly after a Los Angeles press conference announcing the historic deal. "They're fired up about the product. We're fired up about the network."

Boxing and MMA have several times brushed shoulders on the calendar. This past July, a bout between heavyweight boxing champ Wladimir Klitschko and David Haye took place halfway across the world in Hamburg, Germany, as UFC 132 ramped up in Las Vegas. White was seen watching the boxing event backstage.

More.

But on such a momentous occasion for the UFC, it looks like the promotion and its new network partner are doing everything possible to make the Nov. 12 a ratings success.

"We'll be out of there before Pacquiao even walks to the ring," UFC executive Lorenzo Fertitta told the "Las Vegas Sun." "This is going to be a perfect night for any fight fan. Get together with your friends, watch two big fights in the UFC and then change the channel to ride into the Pacquiao pay-per-view."

Fertitta added that should the two main card bouts be quick, more bouts from the preliminary card will be aired. The pace of things will be quicker, though, on live network TV.

"It's going to be a little different with the first one," Fertitta said. "It's going to literally be back-to-back action. We aren't going to mess around with a lot of pre-fight commentary, post-fight commentary. We are going to roll right in, set up the fights and let the action go."

White told MMAjunkie.com that the broadcast details of the preliminary card have yet to be worked out. The evening's main event has yet to be confirmed.

The Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., is expected to host the UFC's first event on FOX.

Looks like the same deal they had with Versus but its somehow sexier now. Probably the old man Rupert Murdoch touch.

It is actually sounding more & more like horseshit to me. Expect mma fighter cameos on talk shows & shit. Ariel asked about cross promotion with programming and i believe DW said, "Fuck yeah!" So if the UFC was ever going to oversaturate itself in pop culture, motherfucking fox would be vector virus

Expect to watch that Denis Leary show with Jon Jones' head popping up on the screen. He starts throwing shadow punches then notices the camera, smiles and makes eyeballs with your girlfriend

Fuck off right now, Jon Jones!

EDIT: Ariel asked about what amount of "integration" with NFL and American Idol. The old man from Fox said, "a lot", the other guy said Liddell will fill in on american idol and Dana White was smiling like he was gonna go have sex with a pile of cash after the press conference

My hatred of television and cross promotion commercialism has obscured from me a fact of some severe relevance.

The more promotion for the ufc and the fighters means more ppv draws and ticket sales which translates into boxing level fighter cabbage.
