News: TUF 13 Cast Announced

Before heavyweight contenders Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos do battle with one another at UFC 131 on June 11 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, they will match wits as coaches on Season 13 of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series.

Spike TV officials on Monday unveiled the 14-member cast for the show, which features the welterweight division and premieres on March 30 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Strikeforce veteran
Shamar Bailey, unbeaten prospect Myles Jury and Bellator Fighting Championships alum Charlie Rader were among those who survived the initial cut. The two finalists will square off for a spot in the UFC and a six-figure contract at “The Ultimate Fighter 13” Finale on June 4 at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

The complete cast for Season 13 of “The Ultimate Fighter” follows:

Nordin Asrih
Age: 32
Record: 15-6-1

The oldest and most experienced of this season’s entrants, the “Fists of Tangier” has sharpened his skills on the M-1 Challenge and Cage Warriors Fighting Championship circuits in Europe. The 32-year-old German last appeared under the German MMA Association banner in November, when he submitted Eduard Janetzko with a first-round armbar. Asrih has secured more than half (nine) of his 15 career victories by submission.

Shamar Bailey
Age: 28
Record: 10-3

Bailey enjoyed a brief run in Strikeforce, splitting bouts against “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 6 alum John Kolosci and American Kickboxing Academy representative Justin Wilcox. Spawned by the same Integrated Fighting Academy camp that houses UFC welterweight mainstay Chris Lytle, the 28-year-old will carry a two-fight losing streak into the competition. Bailey has not competed since September, when he succumbed to a first-round technical knockout against Kurt Kinser at Legends of Fighting 41 in Indianapolis.

Len Bentley
Age: 28
Record: 9-4

“The Liger” trains alongside UFC veterans Dennis Hallman and Brad Blackburn at the Victory Athletics camp in Olympia, Wash. The 28-year-old rarely goes the distance, having secured eight of his nine wins by knockout, technical knockout or submission. Bentley last fought under the M-1 Global banner in September, when he was victimized by a Tom Gallicchio rear-naked choke at Bally’s Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, N.J. He made a successful appearance for Strikeforce in June 2009, defeating Marques Daniels by unanimous decision at Strikeforce Challengers 2.

Michael Bowman
Age: 26
Record: 7-2

Bowman has rattled off four consecutive victories, all of them finishes, and hopes to follow in the reality television footsteps of Wolfslair Academy teammate Michael Bisping. The 26-year-old Englishman has been inactive since October, when he stopped Phil Flynn on second-round punches at Olympian MMA Championships 7. In nine professional appearances, “Mick” has never been knocked out.

Keon Caldwell
Age: 26
Record: 8-1

Anchored at Team Reality in Moultrie, Ga., roughly 185 miles south of Atlanta, Caldwell has proven himself as a dynamic finisher. The 26-year-old has stopped six opponents inside one round. Caldwell’s lone career defeat came in submission to highly regarded prospect Dhiego Lima in 2010. “The Black Assassin” last appeared at a regional event in September, when he put away Bryan Keller on first-round strikes.

Chris Cope
Age: 28
Record: 4-1

Another Strikeforce veteran, Cope trains out of The Arena gym in San Diego. The 28-year-old has not competed since Strikeforce “Fedor vs. Werdum” in June, when he stopped the American Kickboxing Academy’s Ron Keslar on a second-round head kick and follow-up punches at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. Cope tasted defeat for the first time as a professional in January 2010, when the once-beaten Josh Samman knocked him out at a Moon Management event in Florida.

Zach Davis
Age: 26
Record: 4-1

A Lloyd Irvin protégé, Davis will enter the competition on the strength of a three-fight winning streak. The 26-year-old Maryland-based welterweight last fought under the Shogun Fights banner in November, when he coaxed a tapout from Diego Peclat with a second-round rear-naked choke at the 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore. Davis has never gone the distance in five professional outings.

Tony Ferguson
Age: 26
Record: 10-2

“El Cucuy” captured the Pure Combat welterweight championship with a fourth-round technical knockout against Brock Jardine in September 2010. He has not fought since. Ferguson has won six of his past seven bouts, including three in a row. The 26-year-old trains out of the Knuckleheadz Boxing gym in Ventura, Calif., having delivered more than half (six) of his 10 career victories by knockout or technical knockout. Ferguson has been finished only once in 12 professional appearances.

Clay Harvison
Age: 30
Record: 6-1

Rooted at the X3 Sports camp in Marietta, Ga., just outside of Atlanta, Harvison cut his teeth on the Wild Bill’s Fight Night circuit. The 30-year-old last appeared at Wild Bill’s Fight Night 28 in June, when he needed less than a minute to dispatch Aric Nelson on first-round punches. Harvison holds a December 2008 submission victory over “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 6 alum Blake Bowman. None of his seven fights as a professional have reached the second round.

Myles Jury
Age: 22
Record: 9-0

Perhaps the Season 13 cast member with the best pedigree, Jury has finished all nine of his foes inside the first round, four of them in less than a minute. The 22-year-old Hazel Park, Mich., native last competed at King of the Cage “No Mercy” in September, when he submitted Sam Oropeza with an opening-round neck crank at the MGM Grand Casino at Foxwoods in Mashantucket, Conn. Jury has 20-, 48-, 49-, 57-, and 69-second victories on his unblemished resume. He trains out of the Victory MMA camp in San Diego.

Ryan McGillivray
Age: 24
Record: 11-4-1

Based at the Legends Training Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, McGillivray was a mainstay in the Maximum Fighting Championship promotion earlier in his career. The 24-year-old submission specialist has not fought since September, when he tapped out journeyman Markhaile Wedderburn with a second-round armbar at The Fight Club 11. McGillivray has secured nine of his 11 career victories by submission, six of them in the first round. He has been finished only once in 16 professional outings.

Ramsey Nijem
Age: 22
Record: 4-1

Nijem wrestled collegiately at Utah Valley University. The 22-year-old Concord, Calif., has trained alongside UFC veteran Josh Burkman and “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 11 winner Court McGee at the Riven Academy in Utah. Nijem will carry a three-fight winning streak into the show. He has not fought since he submitted Scott Casey with a first-round rear-naked choke at a Showdown Fights event in September.

Charlie Rader
Age: 29
Record: 16-5

Rader has posted four wins in as many appearances. The New Orleans-based welterweight last fought under the Empire Fighting Championships banner in October, when he knocked out Andy Ulrich in the second round at Harrah’s Casino in Tunica, Miss. Rader made a successful return to Bellator Fighting Championships in 2010, as he stopped “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 1 alum Josh Rafferty on punches in just 74 seconds. The 29-year-old has held titles in two different regional promotions.

Javier Torres
Age: 25
Record: 3-0

Torres trains under respected striking guru Shawn Tompkins in Las Vegas. The 25-year-old last competed under the Fight Factory Productions banner in September, when he submitted Jesus Flores with a first-round armbar at the El Nido Sports Center in Mexico. In addition to his exploits in the cage, Torres holds a perfect record in nine amateur boxing fights.
