News: Nick Diaz vs. Carlos Condit Rematch Scrapped

Less than 24 hours after UFC president Dana White announced Nick Diaz (Pictured) and Carlos Condit had agreed to an immediate rematch, it appears Part II has been scrapped before contracts were ever even drawn up.

Unfortunately for curious minds that want to know, Diaz’s longtime manager, Cesar Gracie, wasn’t able to provide much information outside of the fact his client’s future is still as uncertain as ever.

“Yeah, I said that (there will be no rematch). But that’s all I can say,” Gracie told ESPN. “I can’t say anything else. I can’t do anything.

“Quote that if you want to. There is not going to be a rematch. Other than that, that’s all I can say.”

More details should come to light on Friday when Condit and his manager meet with White in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This past Saturday at UFC 143, Condit was rewarded with a highly controversial unanimous decision victory to capture the interim welterweight crown. Many believed Condit should have lost the championship bout because Diaz seemed to be the more aggressive fighter and won the ever-ambiguous “Octagon control” aspect of their 25-minute affair.

Diaz was so baffled by the loss that the 28-year-old threatened to retire from the sport after hearing the unfavorable verdict.

Welterweight king Georges St-Pierre and his surgically-repaired knee won’t be able to start fully training until July, with November tentatively marked as his target return date.

Given GSP’s timetable, Condit would have to wait nine months to try and unify the 170-pound crown. If that’s the case, the interim champ might look to make one title defense before St-Pierre comes back.

Comments

The fact Cesar is even talking about another fight for Diaz just proves he's still in the game, and wanting to people to talk about him. Guaranteed we will see him fight in some type of super fight towards the end the year. He'll probably keep making the odd inflammatory comment every now and then and get his shot at GSP. That's what happens if you generate enough public interest.

Poor little nick... his face tells the story, from black eye to red nose to pouty lips and furrowed brow.

Word on the street is Nick can't fight again because he failed his drug test.

Nick have stated on several occasions in the past he does not like rematches and he always talks about the poor state of MMA with regards to rules and judging. And in my opinion hes spot on in his criticism. The fight with Condit SUCKED because Nick came to fight and Condit ran away. With the current view of what combat sport is there is no question Condit is the winner just like Silva, Machida and countless others in resent years. But this is the kind of bullshit "fights" we are going to get if offensive fighters arent rewarded. MMA is going to turn out like boxing if measures arent taken to prevent it, mark my words.

oh get over yourself, everyone knows you can't stay in the pocket with Nick, these kind of matches will rely on strength and durability and less on skill. nobody can really train his/hers chin and it takes years to develop the proper tools for great punching power.

"Nick came to fight" - ok, fuck this statement. seriously. he didn't. he came there to do the same shit he does always, to piss the guy off and get him in a dog fight, nobody other but him can really win and that's his approach. and now you're bashing Condit for sticking to his stick and move tactic like any other fighter fights in general? seriously? he got Nick's number, because Nick hasn't moved from that region in fucking years. "Condit didn't fight", neither did Diaz. walking down expecting your opponent to flip his shit isn't exactly fighting or at least the way you'd like to see, the guy just getting up in your grill with punches, waiting for the guy the punch himself out on your ridiculous chin.

I personally don't really think Condit won, I'd rather say that Diaz lost and his fights/victories are only as good as stupid his opponent is. this time this was not the case. nobody's fault, but his own. can't expect after to have 30+ fights and sticking to the same old shit.

Yeah things didnīt work out for condit first part of the fight but he adapted and stuck to his game plan including not getting angry and letting nick talk smack to the air instead.. I frankly donīt see what condit did wrong? Sure the fight was far from perfect but is that all to blame on condit?

Things might be lot worse if he face off with GSP cause he certenly wonīt let himself be dragged into a war on diaz terms purely

Lol Oxygen obviously have no idea what MMA stands for. Nickīs fighting style is really street fighting. Conditīs gameplan was stick and move while landing shots more then Nick can land.

Absolutely nothing wrong in what Condit did. That is the way to win over Nick.

Condit ran away from the fight.  It's not a marathon, it's a fight.  You can call it a game plan, but in Japan, Condit would have received several yellow cards for not fighting.  This is correct.  Nick Diaz showed up to fight.  Carlos didn't.

He hit Diaz with more stuff then Diaz hit Condit. bit hard to do that when you are running only.

And no, you get a card in Japan for stalling in a fight. This is just evading strikes in a very intelligent manner. Probably too intelligent for the masses to understand.

Pherhaps people are confused?

Yes it is a fight, but itīs also a job and a sport and to make a larger name for yourself + ear more money you have to climb towards the top. Condit will get that shot at GSP cause he stuck to the game plan against nick, or am I wrong here?
