News: Fedor vs Ishii Confirmed for Dream NYE Event in Saitama

Fedor Emelianenko will make his return to the Land of the Rising Sun on New Year’s Eve.

Sherdog.com confirmed with a source close to the event Monday that “The Last Emperor” will lock horns with Olympic judo gold medalist Satoshi Ishii at DreamGenki Desu Ka! New Year! 2011.” The bout had been teased previously by a number of sources, but it remained unconfirmed until today.

Going down Dec. 31 from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, the event will also feature the semifinal and final rounds of Dream’s ongoing bantamweight world grand prix. Four men currently remain in the tournament draw, which features Antonio Banuelos, Masakazu Imanari, Bibiano Fernandes and Rodolfo Marques.

The Dream lightweight and featherweight titles will also be up for grabs, as company 155-pound king Shinya Aoki will put his belt on the line against former Sengoku champion Satoru Kitaoka, and 145-pound pacesetter Hiroyuki Takaya will defend his strap against two-time Shooto champion Takeshi Inoue. The event is expected to air live on HDNet.

Long considered the best heavyweight in the world, Emelianenko returned to his winning ways in November after suffering three consecutive losses. Following his defeats to Fabricio Werdum, Antonio Silva and Dan Henderson in the Strikeforce cage, the Russian outpointed former UFC title challenger Jeff Monson on Nov. 20 in Moscow. The face of M-1 Global, Emelianenko last competed in Japan four years ago, submitting massive South Korean kickboxer Hong Man Choi in 2007.

Ishii, 24, holds but a fraction of Emelianenko's professional experience. A superior judo practitioner, Ishii took home the gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. After falling by unanimous decision to fellow Olympic champion Hidehiko Yoshida in his MMA debut, Ishii rattled off four straight wins before drawing with former WEC middleweight champion Paulo Filho in a controversial verdict at Amazon Forest Combat 1 on Sept. 14.

I would like to see Fedor step up his game, change everything including serious training in top US/Brazil/Canada gym = 205 without the fatty - rings around his waist and stamina for days... as well as sharpening his techniques and train against the best 205 has to offer.

If he canīt or should I say want then I hope he stops completely and just live his life doing something else, I would hate to see him loose to the best and win once in a while against a nobody in the P4P ranks. But thatīs just me!!

@woohoo5883, lol... F.U.C.K you had me rolling on the floor there for a while, but please donīt tell the hardcore Fedor fans cause they will have no mercy when speaking of the last emperor like that!

Na that was harsh, lol.. But seroiusly though he was a beast in Pride he really was, everyone has their own explenation for what happened but I say it like I see it and that is Pride was it! In SF after that they threw "victims" ment to loose at him more or less, I meen come on old overweight tire mechanics and shit were he almost lost by the way. Refuse to see it like it is or embrace the truth, simple as that imo. Although I also blame the bloodsuckers that surrounds him influesing him..

I still believe in his talent, just that that talent need world class training at top gym with top opponents to train with (+ obviously a cut to 205 gaining speed, strengts and stamina to go with that talent) He will never get that behind a bunch of leeches. To bad imo, or maybe those haymakers and hip playing ainīt working no more in modern mma? What do I know, no matter what he has ackomplished great things in the past!

Ranting much yet? Ahhh, gotta keep the best for later right?

ohh almost forgot?  I hope he kicks Ishiiīs ass!
