News: Chael Sonnen to Host “2011 World MMA Awards”

Chael Sonnen (Pictured) was hoping his game inside the Octagon and outlandish comments outside of it would score him a rematch with UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva. On Friday, Fighters Only announced the sport’s most articulate trash talker will host their “2011 World MMA Awards” on November 30th.

Molly Querim will return as the show’s co-host.

Furthermore, this year’s ceremony will be broadcast in primetime slots across North America by the FOX Sports Network. Replays will be made available on FUEL TV and FSN on dates to be determined.

The Pearl Theatre at the Palms Casino Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada will host the fancy black-tie reception.

“I say it every year that we want to make the awards show bigger and better and every year we have done just that,” Fighters Only CEO Rob Hewitt said. “However, none of it would be possible with out the support of the MMA industry, the fans, our sponsors and TV and venue partners who all believe as much as we do in this project.

“To celebrate the sport we love and the people within it in the way that we do is a crowning moment of the year for Fighters Only and we can’t wait to reveal this year’s winners.”

Fans can still cast their votes on a wide range of mixed martial arts categories. Polls will close on November 25th.

Tickets for the “2011 World MMA Awards” go on sale today on Ticketmaster beginning at 3PM ET/12PM PT. Seats for the shindig range between $55 to $99.

chael sometimes is funny, but it's a l00ser also, disrespecting other fighters and there families but the sucker never been a champ in MMA. Silva owned everbody he fought the last years, he has one off day against this clown and still get this bitch to tap and he's screaming he's the best and the champ, what a joke, one time is funny , now it's just a joke. And by MMA Live he talked shit about the K-1, the K-1 is only striking, no sucker, it's also with kicks, but according the chael it doesn't mean shit if your a K-1 champion / good striker for MMA, what a joke, go wrestle some more, that is a sport for suckers, just like Judo, let's fight, but you can't kick and punch, hahaha, fags.

@BEDANKT, striking does indeed include kicks as well! Grappling does not. (at least not the basic forms we see inside the octagon)

Can´t take that man to serious cause it will agitate one, no just have a good laugh when he goes on. Me I think he´s a superb comedian that brings me lots of laughter, but then again I think A.Silva as well as some others in his team is a bunch of fakes themself so I´m fully ok with him going on about feeding busses etc..? They´r full of excuses but I suspect Ed Soares is a part of that? Regarding Judo it´s also a good base for mixed martial arts it seems, just look at many japanese fighters that are using it very well. But in america under unified rules wresting seem to be very important for controlling your oponent, taking him down, keeping yourself from getting taken down if you wish so etc... Just look at Bones (that me personally think has good striking) and wonder this: Would he be as dominate without that wrestling behind him?

But yeah I can still se your point to a degree, of course it can be seen as very disrespectful I agree BEDANKT! Although what does he really meen all things he says or just playing a game, maybe even keeping people talking about him??? Bad or good it´s all puplicity anyway? Anderson truly did something remarable when subbing him out after that handling he got for 4.5 rounds, that´s a mark of a true champion imo! I respect that even though I don´t necessarily respect Silva that much, but that´s another matter entirely. The rematch gotta happen and I´m very much so looking forward to see if there is any excuses after the fight or even any lame "I hurt my pinkyfinger" excuse or whatever before the fight even happens cause that could say a lot as well. ..on the other hand the excuses are alredy used up so lets see how that fight end up the next time? Me I won´t be supriced if we get to see more of the same, question (for me) though is this: Can Sonnen defent that sub and win all 5 or will Silva have figured out Sonnen to finish him like the rest?

i can't really support this rematch, you know since it might just be another easy fight for anderson. but given that so many people has given in to this illusion that chael was the director of that fight and then putting a lot of thought around that, it will be kind of funny to see how the aftermath on & off paves out.

that said, and on to the award thing, i'd be surprised if chael will get much love since it's a gathering of top fighters. and maybe i shouldn't be if he does.
